Poland to Get €44 Billion from the SAFE Mechanism to Boost Defense
Poland will receive €44 billion from the SAFE (Security Action for Europe) mechanism to strengthen its armed forces, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced at the start of a government meeting.
According to Tusk, portions of the funding will be allocated to: - Procuring drone equipment for the EU's Eastern Border Shield, which protects the bloc’s eastern frontier with Russia and Belarus. - Space programs and development of artificial intelligence for defense purposes. - Equipment for the Polish army, border guards and police. - The SAFE Baltic program, which expands the operational scope of the Polish Navy and border guards in the geopolitically sensitive Baltic Sea.
Tusk also said that, thanks to these efforts, the SAFE program will enable financing of roads and railways directly related to the security of the Polish state.
