The United States is reportedly prepared to recognize Russian control of Crimea and other occupied Ukrainian territories as part of an effort to secure a deal to end the war. According to the British newspaper The Telegraph, Donald Trump sent his envoy Steve Witkoff and his son-in-law Jared Kushner to Moscow to present the proposal directly to Vladimir Putin.
The plan to recognize those territories is said to be likely to move forward despite concerns from European allies of Ukraine. A well-informed source told The Telegraph: "It's increasingly clear that the Americans do not care about the European position. They say that the Europeans can do whatever they want."
