A 12-year-old boy from Palamas, Karditsa, suffered severe burns after an alcohol-fueled fireplace flare-up; he was intubated and transferred to Athens’ Aglaia Kyriakou Children’s Hospital.

A 12-year-old boy from the Palamas area of Karditsa was transferred intubated and in critical condition to the Aglaia Kyriakou Children's Hospital in Athens after suffering severe burns in a household accident.

According to karditsapress, the incident occurred while family members were attempting to light a fireplace. Under unclear circumstances, the alcohol (ethanol) used to start the fire ignited, causing a flare-up that inflicted serious burns on the child.

The boy was initially taken to the General Hospital of Karditsa, where doctors determined he needed to be intubated and urgently moved to a specialized pediatric burns unit in Athens because of the severity of his injuries (source: karditsapress).
